More About Wendy
Charlotte FC fan, proud parent of Murphy the beagle, and boxer to blow off steam!
Professional Career
Wendy started her career in public accounting with Peat Marwick Main & Co (now KPMG) as an auditor and consultant. After five years in public accounting, Wendy joined Tyler 2 Construction in Charlotte as Controller of this emerging $2 million general contractor. Wendy went on to become the Chief Financial Officer, contributing to the sustained success of Tyler 2 as it grew to over $35 million in revenues during her 15 years there.
Wendy had her first opportunity to bring her financial management experiences to a nonprofit after time spent in the real estate development industry. Shortly thereafter, she was asked to bring her skills to another nonprofit. A year later, Laxton CFO Services was created when Wendy knew she wanted to bring talent, resources, and creative financial management solutions to nonprofits.
In 2017, Laxton (and her clients) joined partners at CREO, Inc. to start the Financial Management Practice of this innovative consulting firm providing advisory services to life sciences and healthcare companies. During her time with CREO, Wendy obtained her Professional Coach Certification, facilitated Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)® implementations, and gained invaluable experience with fast-growth for-profit and nonprofit clients.
In 2022, Wendy (and her clients and teammates) reactivated Laxton CFO Services to exclusively serve nonprofit organizations from Charlotte, NC, to Raleigh/Durham, NC, to Boston, MA, to Austin, TX, to Brussels, Belgium, and locations in between.

Personal
Wendy moved to Charlotte in 1987, a few years after graduating from Western Carolina, where she obtained her degrees and played Division 1 basketball and softball for the Lady Catamounts. In her youth, Wendy loved the competitiveness of sports. She competed at all levels in swimming, gymnastics, Little League baseball, softball, and basketball. After graduating from college, she added soccer, triathlons, marathons, trail runs, mud runs, and rowing to her growing list of competitions. She fell in love with soccer as an adult, becoming a Chelsea, NWSL, and Charlotte FC fan. She spent over a decade coaching youth in basketball and soccer while her daughters were growing up. Today, Wendy enjoys boxing to stay fit and let off a little steam! She is passionate about family: her wife Leah, daughters Lyndsay (Manhattan) and Katie (Charlotte), her canine beagle boy Murphy, and their sweet family beagle Lexi.
